Home and garden professionals bring advice and inspiration for spring.
RICHMOND, VA, February 1, 2011—Hundreds of experts convene to share the latest information for improving properties inside and out at the MAC Events Home Show & the 22nd Annual Maymont Flower & Garden Show®, February 10-13, at the Greater Richmond Convention Center. For four days the show becomes a learning center for visitors, and the added benefit of ‘two shows in one” makes it the most comprehensive overview of indoor/outdoor resources in Virginia.
Terry Haas from HGTV’s “Designed to Sell” leads an impressive roster of speakers. Haas, a real estate agent and home staging consultant will offer tips on how to make a home irresistible to buyers. Her no-nonsense advice helps home owners set their property apart from others on the market.
Charles Bush, co-owner of Green Living Education Center of Virginia, will help attendees evaluate the benefits of solar energy. The Green Living Education Center of Virginia is a learning and training facility for children and professionals, as well as a green products store and organic garden. Produce from the garden goes to those in need throughout the greater Richmond community.
Bed bug expert Ron Harrison, who has a doctorate in entomology, and is the corporate technical director and national spokesman for Orkin, will offer guidance on spotting and solving bed bug problems. Harrison appeared recently on CNBC and ABC News speaking about this national issue. Along with him there will be experts in the fields of painting, stone work, building, decorating, heating/cooling, irrigation and more to troubleshoot and consult on ideas for home improvements.
The other half of the show celebrates the 22nd year of the Maymont Flower & Garden Show and provides a wealth of garden inspiration from authorities including, garden expert, TV and radio host Mark Viette of the André Viette Farm & Nursery and Viette Communications who will speak on Saturday and broadcast his radio program, “Easy Gardening with Mark Viette,” live on Sunday morning from the show floor.
Horticulturalist Melinda Myers, author of more than 20 gardening books, host of “Melinda’s Garden Moment” and a contributing editor for Birds & Blooms magazine, will offer ideas for year round color in the garden and fresh ideas for shade growing.
Sylvia Hoehns Wright, an eco-chic specialist, provides strategies for creating sustainable green landscapes that are environmentally responsible. Wright will offer ideas designed to keep gardening practices appropriate for different settings.
Dean Norton, the director of horticulture at George Washington’s Mt. Vernon, shares his 30 years of plant science expertise and will discuss how present-day techniques are used in an historic garden setting.
